Life update: In which I finally make a start on Book #5

Hello!

It's been a busy few weeks since I last wrote, the highlight of which was a trip to northern France at the end of April to visit some of the cemeteries and battlefields of the First World War.

It was our first visit abroad for almost four years, and it felt both alien and strangely familiar to be back in France. We've spent many a happy holiday there with our two boys over the years. This time we left the 'boys' [they're now 20 and 18!] at home and took Adrian's parents instead.

In what was an enlightening and emotional trip, we visited the French National War Cemetery, Thiepval, the Newfoundland Memorial Park at Beaumont Hamel, the Lochnagar Crater and Vimy Ridge. All poignant reminders of the thousands who lost their lives in the name of war.

We also managed to fit in a visit to the historic city of Arras and a fairytale castle just across the road from the place where we were staying.

Here are just a few pictures from what was an unforgettable trip...

Since my last life update we've given our kitchen and downstairs loo a much-needed makeover, decluttering and giving both rooms a fresh lick of paint. I've also been busy in the garden, trying to get things shipshape before the weeds take over, triffid-style.

I have started sowing seeds in our raised vegetable beds, too. I tend to be a bit hit and miss when it comes to seed-growing. I get gluts of some things, and others fail miserably, so wish me luck!

The big news is that I've finally made a start on Book #5. It does have a working title, but I'm keeping that under wraps for now in case it changes.

At the moment I'm very much in the planning stage. Regular readers will know I find plotting the hardest part of the process. I'm a discovery writer at heart but I know from experience that the books I have taken time to outline are far quicker and easier to write.

I already have a cast of characters forming in my mind, and a corker of a premise. I just need to work out how best to tell the story so it grabs you from the first page and keeps you enthralled till the last.

No pressure then!!

And finally, a FREE BOOK!!

When She Finds You, my first domestic thriller, is completely FREE to download until Monday, May 23.

The book has more than 1,110 five star reviews on Goodreads, so if you haven't read it already, why not give it a go? You have literally nothing to lose bar your time. And please do tell a thriller-loving friend!

Just click these links to check it out:

I'll leave you with a quick reminder that my other three thrillers are all 99p/99c at the moment. I'm not sure how long I'm going to be able to keep them at this price, so don't hang about if you want to make the most of the offer. Click on the covers below to find out more.

[And please don't forget that all my books are free to read with Kindle Unlimited.]

Happy reading!

Amanda
